About Kakkanattu-Kudumbayogam
-
The genesis – origin of Kakkanattu family can be traced, only as a continuity of the early ancestors who lived at Kodungalloor – North Paravoor – areas. Christianity was introduced in Kerala by St. Thomas the Apostle, after this arrived at Muzris (Modern Day North Paravoor and Kodungalloor) in 52 AD. It’s assumed that the Kakkanattu Family members belonged to those early converts in the first century. Thereaf-ter, they lived as a minority community and often subjected to untold persecutions. They were looted, exploited and harassed by the majority community and Muhammadans. Periodical epidemics and gnawing poverty added to their misery. Thus, compelled by the pressures of the time they set out looking out for greener pastures. In fact driven by an intensive desire to find safer places they spread out and settled at vari-ous localities all over Kerala.
The primary source of the present family records are based on the data collected from the archives of the early Catholic churches at Mylakombu, Karakkunnam and Ayavana. Besides, the oral communica-tion down the generations by our ancestors and the Land deeds (docu-ments) registered in 1904, have helped in compiling this manuscript.
To begin with; we shall now focus our attention on the Kakkanattu family settled under the aegis of St. Thomas Foarane Church, Mylakombu Parish, one of the oldest churches of Kerala. Panning the camera forward Kumaramangalam, we come across Mathulla Kora, one of the most popular pioneers of Kakkanattu family begotten three sons – Kora, Mani and Mathan. In course of time, kora and Mathan translocat-ed themselves to Ayavana (Karakkunnam Parish) and Changanasseri (Kallupara) respectively. Mani continued at his ancestral house. The progeny of Kora, later settled at Ayavana, Nellimattam and Meloor, while the descendants of Mathan, found their homes at Thiruvanchoor and Kiliroor near Kottayam. Mani’s offsprings established themselves at Kumaramangalam and extended to Nakappuzha localities.

The remarkable journey of our family, the Kakkanattu family. Our history is a testament to the enduring spirit and resilience of our ancestors who laid the foundation of our heritage. The roots of our family can be traced back to the ancient lands of Kodungalloor and North Paravoor in Kerala. It was in this sacred land that Christianity found its way to our hearts, brought by none other than St. Thomas the Apostle in the year 52 AD. It is believed that our forebears were among the early converts in that era, and from then on, they forged a path as a minority community.
